Opportunity for improved indoor facilities at ten sites throughout Suffolk

Past, present and future members of the volleyball in and around Sufolk have an opportunity to help secure sports halls more suitable for volleyball across the county and beyond.  Action is needed ASAP.

The following schools already have rebuild plans in their respective council's planning systems:

  • Ormiston Sudbury Academy
    • Initial application: DC/24/05461
    • Court markings etc: DC/25/04315 - note doesn't include volleyball at this stage
  • East Bergholt - DC/26/00701
  • Hadleigh - DC/26/00385
  • Thurston - DC/26/01037

The following are also included in the government's School Rebuilding Programme (SRP).  Some will be rushed through urgently due to being built with Reinforced Autoclaved Aereated Concrete (RAAC) which is at the end of it's intended life.  Others will be rebuilt due to the housebuilding in surrounding areas meaning they need increased capacity.

  • Woodbridge - Farlingaye
  • Haverhill - Castle Manor Academy
  • Haverhill - Samuel Ward Academy
  • Claydon
  • Stowupland
  • Ipswich (Whitton) Ormiston Endeavour Academy

It's particularly important that members living in the catchments for all ten of these schools get involved.  These living elsewhere can also help.

Early engagement with the school, other community groups in these areas, councilors and MPs is necessary to secure the best possible outcome.  Local crowd-funding may be necessary to ensure floor sockets for volleyball are installed and court lines are painted.

Schools in neighboring counties are also included in the SRP so members living outside the county may be interested in helping too.

Our chair, Andrew Whitefield, will explain the SRP, current plans and what we can do to members of the volleyball community on Monday 11th May from 8:15pm via Google Meet.  All members for the volleyball community in Suffolk are encouraged to attend to find out how they can help secure better facilities for generations to come. Message Andrew on 07508351875 for the meeting link.
